Mechanical Engineering Technician Duties and Responsibilities

A mechanical engineering technician assists a mechanical engineer in all stages of the design, development, operation, and maintenance of mechanical devices. The creation of preliminary sketches and designs, the use of data, and the performance of calculations and estimates are within the scope of this work. Most of the people in this line of work are committed to a regular full-time schedule. However, occasional overtime and shift work are a possibility, according to the employer. Most mechanical engineering technicians usually work under the direction of a mechanical engineer, but often with minimal supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineering Technician

Although the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of a mechanical engineering technician may vary depending on where he works, some basic activities do not change. Based on our vacancy review, these activities include:

Collaborate with colleagues

Competently discussing initial design instructions or drafting, design, fabrication, and assembly changes with the right team members is a necessary task. Discussions involving change often occur during the testing phases of a process or product.

Review of project requirements

The ability to review design instructions to identify manufacturing, assembly, and testing requirements is critical. It is also important to determine test specifications, procedures, and objectives from project instructions and templates.

Creation of detailed sketches

Using the 3D software, the mechanical engineering technician will create designs and drawings of the parts, as well as the process of connecting the parts. Additionally, it is often necessary to write work orders and production requests for parts relevant to drawings.

Carrying out tests and analysis of results.

The ability to simulate operating conditions is required to perform unit and component tests to determine how to improve equipment performance. Mechanical engineering technicians also analyze test results related to targets, product design, or other specifications to make any necessary changes or adjustments for specified and optimal performance.
