Duties and responsibilities of NOC analysts



NOC analysts, also known as network operations center analysts, manage and troubleshoot hardware and IP networks. Many companies with network systems hire full-time NOC analysts to work flexible shifts, including weekends and nights, and sometimes even on-call hours. NOC analysts work both independently and in a team environment, reporting to supervisors on the data team. Travel is rarely required for this job, unless NOC analysts are asked to travel between company branches to manage networks.

Duties and responsibilities of NOC analysts

NOC analysts perform many different job tasks depending on the size of the corporate network and the amount of support and maintenance the network requires. However, these core business activities are common across the field:

Troubleshoot network problems

NOC analysts troubleshoot IP networks and network hardware. This includes troubleshooting individual computers and laptops connected to the network.

Keep your networks safe

NOC analysts monitor network security, isolate potential security vulnerabilities, and resolve security issues that could compromise the network. This includes running diagnostic programs on the networks to identify problems and monitor the overall health of the network.

Write reports

NOC analysts regularly write analyzes and reports on the network infrastructure.

Replace hardware

NOC analysts replace faulty or poorly performing hardware connected to the network.

Design script

NOC analysts write scripts and design automated network functions to increase efficiency.

Provide technical support

NOC analysts respond to incoming technical support calls from customers and other staff members within the company.

Resolve interruptions

NOC analysts solve outage problems by isolating programs and collaborating with technicians to find solutions.

Check the network logs

NOC analysts examine the network logs for security and other issues and monitor the entire network.
