Operations Associate Duties and Responsibilities


In general, operations associates help the operations manager complete clerical and administrative tasks related to the functionality of the organization. The specific roles of Operations Associates vary by industry, and virtually every industry that serves customers employs Operations Associates. With that said, Operations Associates generally focuses on the financial, wealth, and human resource aspects of a business.

This role is an entry-level position that requires little formal education. Most employers will hire candidates with only a high school diploma. Most of the training for operational associates comes in the form of on-the-job training. The work environment for operating associates also varies by industry. Order supplies and inventory

Operational employees are responsible for ordering supplies and inventory for their employer. This could be as critical as making sure the office has office supplies, or it could involve ordering inventory from a retail store.

Operations employees perform different functions within an organization. One of these hats is the HR clerk as they are often involved in the search and selection of candidates. This requires you to fully understand the expectations of an open position and the ability to articulate the benefits of working with your company to candidates.

Help in the process of acquiring new hires.

Operational associates are generally responsible for handling the paperwork required to officially onboard a new candidate. They are also responsible for orienting the new hire to their position and should be available to answer any questions the new hire may have.

Help create employee schedules

Operations associates help the operations manager create employee schedules. This also involves the processing of sick leave, vacation requests, and maternity leave. This task requires optimal organizational skills.

Helps operations manager implement corporate standards of procedure.

The COO is often the creator of a company's procedural standards. Operating associates are the manager's agents for the implementation of these procedural standards. This includes conducting employee performance reviews and documenting any comments.
